Nov 10: The Day the Earth Stood Still (1951) dir. Robert Wise

Another in a series of posts on 50's black and white films featuring the world in peril.

Also gives rise to one of the most memorable film trivia questions, with the phrase:

Gort Klaatu, Barada, Nicto....

Gort is a robot who guards the spaceship when Klaatu the alien arrives, is shot and taken to hospital. As usual, there is suspicion of the alien, just as there was suspicion throughout the Cold War of new arrivals into many countries.

He is also one of the most memorable robots in film.
