Jan 31: Magnolia and the frogs...

Warning: contains potential spoilers

How do you know it's been raining cats and dogs? When you step in a poodle....

If you've seen Paul Thomas Anderson's 'Magnolia' you'll know that almost three hours into the movie, something unexpected happens. The movie has already been mentioned previously because of Aimee Mann's work on the soundtrack for the film.

Frogs start raining from the sky.

This is a reference to a passage in the Bible: Exodus 8:2

A billboard reads “Exodus 8:2” on the side of the road after the first frog falls, a poster referencing the same verse is held up by an audience member at a quiz show, and even little nods to the number 82 are present in weather broadcasts, phone numbers, and many more spots noticeable only to the careful, fifteenth-time viewer.

There are many similar stories of strange items falling from the sky

It's referred to as 'rain of animals' or 'animal rain'.

What other items have fallen from the sky and what are the causes of it?

Waterspouts sometimes result in rains of fish, for example.

You may remember the cow in 'Twister', but perhaps the most obvious (and ridiculous) example would be in the 'Sharknado' film series, which became increasingly outrageous with each film.

If you haven't seen one, it's worth a little of your time to check it out.
