Mar 4: BFI Archive & BFI Southbank
The BFI is the British Film Institute.
The BFI itself is based on the South Bank in London, and has a number of facilities for visitors. My son and I go as often as we can when we are in London.
They have a lot of screenings with the directors or other people in association with the filming. I've been to a few Q and A's there, most recently the one with Mike Leigh and a viewing of 'Secrets and Lies'.
There is a shop, which usually features a prop / costume from a film and a good selection of film merchandise, BluRays and magazines.
There is a bar and cafe which is a good place to sit, and also displays of photographs along the top gallery.
There is also the Reuben Library and the Mediateque for research.
Set a little further back from the river is the BFI IMAX cinema, with one of the largest IMAX screens in the country.
The BFI offer a website with free streaming and a membership option as well. Their archive has over 11 000 titles going back over 120 years.
There is also a Britain on Film map offering an easy link to hundreds of films on Britain.
The BFI also offers a film streaming service, with some films available free of charge and others available for a subscription. They also have a magazine called 'Sight and Sound'.
