May 13: Recommended Film Soundtracks #4: Star Wars

This soundtrack has a lot of personal resonance for me.

I saw Star Wars when it first came out in the UK on general release outside of London in 1978 - I had to queue up in Sheffield.

This was well before anyone knew that it would spawn a number of sequels, prequels and TV series featuring characters from the series. I did have the series of illustrated comics too, which are probably now worth a lot of money.

The music is by John Williams.

I had the soundtrack as a double LP.

I have strong memories of playing this album numerous times, including at my grandparents where I often spent part of the weekend. The Cantina scene was always a surprising change from the orchestral sweep of the rest of the album.
