Apr 25: Liverpool
I'm going to be visiting the city of Liverpool later this year some time to attend a few exhibitions which are appearing at the Tate and other galleries. It's also a chance to wander a city I've only visited a few times, dating back to my first visit just after the Toxteth riots, and to visit a good friend who was studying there. We've done the various museums, Albert Dock, Mersey ferry, Liverpool One, Cathedrals etc.
There are some articles I found in my initial searching about film connections linked to the exhibition.
World in One City: Travel, Globalization and Placeless SpaceDOI:10.5949/UPO9781846317248.007
This chapter explores the contradictions raised by the notion of Liverpool as a ‘world in one city’. It provides a comparative analysis of Alex Cox's films Three Businessmen and Liverpool: The World in One City, suggesting that these films highlight the heterotopic nature of the city as a space of deterritorialization, consumption and global capital.
The chapter also considers the ways in which cinematic geographies can both reinforce and expose the city as a placeless space of global mobility. This is one of the themes in the film 'Lost in Translation'
Thanks to Stephen Schwab for sending me a link to a Liverpool Echo story in February 2022 which showed some Hollywood stars who had enjoyed their visit to the city.
There is a strong connection with many films and Liverpool.

The Batman - the latest in the franchise was filmed partly in the city.
