Jun 5: KES (1969) dir. Barry Hines
KES is a classic film which will stand the test of time, and is always worth watching whenever it is on the TV.It was filmed in and around Hoyland near Barnsley. There is a statue of Billy and KES in Barnsley.
My favourite film piece in the Guardian.
David Bradley's website has plenty of information on the film. He talks about his involvement in the Guardian here.
It was filmed a few miles from where I grew up, and we fairly regularly used to travel through Hoyland, Cudworth and other locations.
Brian Glover's performance remains one of the classic portayals of a teacher (now there's an idea for a future blogpost...) - also Colin Welland.
Here's another poster and the trailer for the film...
The music is also memorable - can be heard on Spotify.
