Jul 16: The San Fernando Valley
I've previously mentioned particular places where a lot of films have been made over the years, and which form an important part of the mise-en-scene.
These include the streets of cities like London, New York and Paris, and locations such as Monument Valley.
This piece in the film magazine Little White Lies looks at the San Fernando Valley, which has also featured in a great many
It focusses on the film 'Licorice Pizza' which is one of many films set in and around this location.
The highways and freeways form a seemingly endless maze, while the streets are grid-like and flat, with strip malls occupying every other corner. It is vast and sprawling.A great many teen movies such as 'Fast times at Ridgemont High' were made here - if there's a film set in suburbia then it was quite possibly made here in 'the Valley'.
The Valley Girl culture was also satirised by Frank Zappa and his daughter Moon
