Feb 12: Film Marketing - invading urban spaces
When a film gets made, alongside the production budget, another sum of money is set aside for marketing. This has to create a buzz around the film, and persuade people to part with money to see it in the cinema. This marketing can take many forms.
Sometimes, it involves physical objects which can be given away, sometimes it is to connect with another company such as a fast food chain, or clothing company, sometimes it involves print ads placed on billboards or bus stops, and sometimes it involves paying for mobile ads on buses and taxis which will travel through the city and be seen by many thousands of people.
Here's an example:

Promotion takes many forms, including interviews carried out by the film's stars. There may also be links with products from the film e.g. the watch that Bond wears and the car he drives are recognisable and form part of the advertising of the brand itself.
Sometimes places are even renamed (sometimes temporarily) after locations in filming.
Feel free to send me images of other marketing images in and around urban spaces.
