Aug 11: The Big Lebowski (1998) dir. Joel and Ethan Cole

If pushed to choose one, this could well be my favourite film, and is certainly one that I would happily sit down and watch any time.

It has possibly the greatest number of quotable lines of any film.

There are some amazing performances by everyone involved.

One of the opening scenes features 'the Dude', played by Jeff Bridges wandering the aisles of a supermarket buying milk which sets the tone of disrupting the everyday, but also revelling in some everyday actions.

He is one of the greatest screen characters, but also has a wealth of excellent supporting characters as well.

Bowling has come to represent the lives of many Americans and forms part of their identity, as well as offering a social benefit with endless leagues and teams and competitions for them to shape their days around. A bowling alley is its own special place, with routines and familiar characters.

One memorable character is Donny, played by Steve Buscemi, along with Walter, played by John Goodman.

There is plenty of language that is not suitable for work.

There is also a cameo from one of my favourite musicians, Aimee Mann.

Here's the trailer for the film.

There's no shortage of Big Lebowski gifs, which are suitable for a range of occasions.

Films I watched today:
One of our Aircraft is Missing (1942) dir. Emeric Pressburger and Michael Powell
A classic war film featuring an air crew who have to abandon their plan over the Netherlands and are helped by the locals.

The Hornet's Nest (1955) dir. Charles Saunders
Comedy drama - not very dramatic and not very funny :)
