Aug 17: Free Solo (2018) dir. Elizabeth Chai Vasarhelyi and Jimmy Chin

Free Solo followed the climber Alex Honnold as he attempted to free climb El Capitan.

There is the dramatic geography of the areas where Alex climbed to capture the imagination as well as the mental strength showed to learn and rehearse the moves that he would need to repeat without error in order to complete the climb.

El Capitan is located in Yosemite National Park in the USA, which teachers and students from my school have previously visited.
It's about 3000ft (914m) high.

El Capitán ("the captain", "the chief") was taken to be a loose Spanish translation of the local Native American name for the cliff, variously transcribed as "To-to-kon oo-lah" or "To-tock-ah-noo-lah" (Miwok language).
