Aug 20: Stanley Kubrick - auteur
I visited the Stanley Kubrick exhibition at the Design Museum in London in May 2019.
It was an excellent exhibition.
There were a range of props from films, items from the Kubrick archive and also some reproductions of scenes. There were costumes and miniatures and plenty to fascinate.
I created an album of images while walking round the exhibition, as we were reminded of the huge range of films that Kubrick created, each of which seemed to be a world away from the previous one.
The idea of place was significant in these films, but also the importance of engagement with those places - although there was also the use of one place to represent another e.g. the use of London docklands during 'Full Metal Jacket'.
What's your favourite Kubrick movie?
Films I watched today:
Monster from Green Hell (1957) dir. Kenneth G Crane
A woeful assemblage of stock footage and terrible animated giant wasps.
True Grit (1969) dir. Henry Hathaway
The classic version of this Western which was remade in 2010. This features John Wayne helping a headstrong girl capture the man who killed her father.
