Sep 25: Isn't that spatial: Hometown Movies

Via Black Geographers

A podcast exploring film geographies.

This is the first of three.

Description:

In this episode, we discuss movies that depict the filmmakers' hometown and the unique insight into those geographies the filmmaker provides.

Through film, we see that geography and place influence the individual, even if the filmmaker doesn’t necessarily go into the project with geography on their mind. It tends to make its way in there anyway. The films discussed on this episode feature each town’s micro-geographies and places known best to its natives. They also expose the disappointments and shortcomings within these geographies, be it malaise or poverty or racism, but even flaws are explored in a loving way by each filmmaker, always straddling that tension between the complicated and comforting parts of home

The episode includes reference to Moonlight, Dazed and Confused and Ladybird.
