Dec 17: Killers from Space (1954) dir. W Lee Wilder

Another in a series of posts about 1950s science fiction films with dubious plots and production values...

It starts with a nuclear detonation in Nevada, with observers watching from a distance. A plane carrying observers crashes but the crew doctor is apparently abducted by aliens - there are some bad special effects at this point.

This was a remarkable period of history when such tests were carried out without the real awareness of the long lasting effects on the landscape.

I have a number of books on Atomic tourism which were brought back from Las Vegas by David Lambert while I was working at the GA. He attended an AGU event, I think, in the city and brought back some bools after special request.

I spoke to students recently about this period of history.

The Snowman (1982) dir. Dianne Jackson

A Christmas classic.
