Dec 26: Detectorists - Christmas Special (2022) dir. Mackenzie Crook
While not a film as such, there is certainly a filmic quality to this series, which has gained numerous plaudits and positive reviews. It is one of the finest pieces of television ever made, with many finely drawn characters.
I visited some of the venues of filming a few years ago while staying in Southwold. Framlingham has made something of its association with the series.
If you want to know more about the geographical connections, there is also another option: a book published by uniformbooks called 'Landscapes of Detectorists' edited by Jo Norcup and Innes Keighren.
The special was wonderful.... a real treasure...
Catch it on iPlayer.
Films I watched today:
'Breakfast at Tiffany's' (1961) dir. Blake Edwards
New York is a star here, with lots of iconic streets and scenes in this film which won lots of awards for Henry Mancini for his score. I have visited the branch of Tiffany's which is featured as well as some of the other locations in the film. Audrey Hepburn's character is irresistible.
'The Longest Day' (1962) dir. Ken Annakin, Andrew Marton, Bernhard Wicki
A classic black and white film about the D-Day landings featuring an all-star cast and showing the events from the perspective of the UK, US and German forces.
